It’s a critical objective for us all given the United Nations expects global population to rise from the eight billion in 2022 to 9.7 billion by 2050. That’s an average of 61 million more mouths to feed each year from the same or less land.
Integrating Stoller Australia into the new Plant Performance segment of Corteva Agriscience will help drive further gains for growers looking to boost farm performance, build resilience and protect their crop’s potential.
David Cavallaro, who was Managing Director of Stoller Australia, is now Plant Performance Leader at Corteva.
“Plant performance focuses on anything that maintains or unlocks the genetic potential of a plant, and our team’s goal is to provide sustainable solutions to grow better crops and improve crop yield and produce quality,” Mr Cavallaro said.
“Crop protection, in contrast, focuses on protecting crops from biotic pressures such as insects, weeds and diseases in a safe and sustainable manner.
“The synergistic effects between the two is that when you’ve got a healthier plant, you not only improve its ability to be self-defending against these biotic pressures, but the plant’s resilience and ability to recover also helps the crop protection products in their actions.”
What does this mean for farmers?
Stoller’s expertise in plant physiology and its range of innovative biological solutions have merged seamlessly with Corteva’s mission to help farmers succeed.
“We’re delivering smarter, more efficient ways to use fertilisers, improve nutrient uptake, and manage stress in crops. It’s all about helping farmers do more with less,” Mr Cavallaro said.
The integration of Stoller also signals a broader shift towards sustainable farming practices. With climate challenges and food demand rising, Corteva Country Lead, Ian Corr, said combining plant performance with crop protection was essential.
“Farmers are at the frontline of experiencing the pressures of climate change, and their ability to manage these extremes, and run a viable business, are crucial for ensuring our food security, a strong rural economy, and in promoting a healthy environment” Mr Corr said.
“By bringing these solutions under one banner, we’re aiming to provide growers with the best tools to adapt and thrive through emerging challenges and social expectations.”
